brookstone battery heated liner gloves

As the sun sets earlier each day, riding becomes a bit colder each time. Our hands seem to take the brunt of this pain - as they are usually the most vulnerable to the cold.

As we had talked about previously in our review on Warmthru's battery heated gloves, unless you have heated gear - your hands will become too cold for comfort in temperatures ranging from below freezing to 10 degrees Celsius.

Having multiple pairs of gloves for various riding conditions is ideal - but not necessarily convenient, nor inexpensive for that matter.

Brookstone's battery heated glove liners have the answer. Now you can simply slip on the heated liner and wear your favorite pair of gloves over-top.

style

The Brookstone gloves are designed to be worn underneath other gloves. An element of style does not really apply here just as long-johns are not bought for their flair.

features

These gloves (liners really) are designed for various uses - hunting, skiing, and of course motorcycling. For those of us with multiple outdoor winter activities the Brookstone liners can easily adapt to whatever task is at 'hand'.

Let's get to the 'heat' of the matter - the liners are powered by three AA batteries which provides heat throughout the entire hand via carbon micro fiber bundles. The micro fibers spread up and down each finger and thumb. The amount of heat radiated is subtle and safe. Do not expect instant heat from the liners but rather a constant maintenance of a comfortable temperature.

As liners, they are not wind or waterproof - a good thing to keep in mind if the gloves you are wearing over-top are also not wind or waterproof.

One common complaint about battery gloves and liners is that the battery pack is bulky and awkward. We found the Brookstone liners to be more comfortable than most. Although you still feel the battery pack, it's comfortable compared to most other battery type of hand gear. Being battery powered, you do not have to worry about being 'cuffed' to your bike via wires or worry about properly connecting your gear to your battery.

The battery life is stated to last "up to four hours at a time" depending on the type of battery and charge level.

safety

The gloves are safe and provide a slow steady heat opposed to a temperature that can burn. There are two settings that allow you to adjust the level of heat.

quality

The liners themselves are made of a high quality material.

The battery pack takes non-NiCd or NiMh batteries. One of the banes of every consumer is the 'batteries not included' line - unfortunately the Brookstone glove liners are not the exception to this product rule. As such, using rechargeable alkaline batteries will make sure you do not break the bank on buying packs of AA's after every few rides.

show me the money

The Brookstone glove liners are very inexpensive compared to battery heated gloves ringing in at USD $49.95.

overall

The Brookstone heated glove liners are an excellent alternative if you want heated gloves but do not want to spend the extra money on a new pair of gloves, or simply want to wear your favorite gloves all season. The battery pack is one of the biggest obstacles for battery heated gloves and liners and Brookstone seems to have done a good job on making the pack less cumbersome. If you want warm and comfortable hands - but do not need hardcore gear, want to save some money, and/or want to be able to combine the liners with your current gloves - the Brookstone heated glove liners will be perfect for your situation.
