Gears Warm Tek Heated Gloves

As the temperature continues to drop, we find ourselves reviewing more heated gear.

As we had talked about previously in our review on Warmthru's battery heated gloves and most recently Brookstones heated glove liners, you need heated gear to comfortably ride in colder temperatures - around 10C or lower.

Gears is a brand that makes excellent heated gear - in addition to their heated gloves, they also make a heated vest and heated jacket that can be combined with the gloves.

The heated gloves do the job in providing the wearer with a comfortable ride.

style

The Gears gloves are reminiscent of thick winter gloves. If you were to wear them when not riding they can easily be mistaken for normal winter gloves (asides from the wires dangling from the inside of them). Only one color for these gloves - black. The GEARS logo is embroidered neatly at the bottom of each glove. The gloves have a neutral style, which is desired by some - nothing flashy but also clean and neat.

features

The gloves main feature obviously is their heating application. The gloves operate at 12V, drawing 2.2 amps of current to produce 27 Watts of heat. The gloves only have an on/off setting, however, a controllable thermostat can be purchased separately which can be used in combination with the GEARS heated vest or jacket.

When you first put on the gloves after they have had a chance to warm it feels as though your hands are going to burn! But after a few seconds your fingers get used to the sensation and the heat is quite pleasant. As a wired device, the heat is greater than battery heated gear and will provide more of that 'fuzzy' heated feeling.

The gloves are also wind and waterproof via a breathable liner. In addition to this, a Thinsulate insulation liner provides additional warmth.

The extra long gauntlet style of the glove provides extra protection to keep cool air from running up your sleeves. A Velcro band that tightens across the top of the wrist keeps the glove tightly in place.

The Warm Tek heated gloves come in sizes XS-3XL

safety

The gloves are fitted with Carbon fiber knuckles to protect your hands against impact.

The amount of heat the gloves radiate is safe, but very warm. At 27 Watts the gloves are design to reach a comfortable level of heat without exceeding it.

quality

The gloves are made with soft drum-dyed leather. The leather is very soft, it almost feels like down material. The reasoning we assume is so that the heat can be distributed evenly throughout the hands, as well as ensuring your hands do not get stiff.

The GEARS Warm Tek Heated Gloves retail for USD $129

overall

The GEARS Warm Tek Heated Gloves are a great choice for touring riders or for those of us who brave the cold weather. The heat provided is very comfortable but not over-powering. Having the Carbon Fiber knuckle protection is added plus as well as the breathable wind and waterproof liner. One improvement would be to incorporate a variable setting with the gloves (although this can be purchased separately). The gloves are reasonably priced and the quality is great.
