Icon Alliance SSR Motorcycle Helmet

Icon's Alliance SSR is an excellent entry level helmet. New riders are usually over-burdened with the big hit of having to buy all their gear at one time. Providing a great quality helmet at a reasonable price is what Icon has done with the Alliance SSR.

There is no doubt that one of Icon's main focus is on style - and in 2010 the Alliance SSR got not only a completely new face-lift, but also the laser hair removal, lypo-suction and boob job to boot!

style

Colors and graphics is where the Alliance SSR definitely excels! 2009 was the year that Icon focused it's design attention towards it's higher-end model the Airframe, but 2010 is dedicated to the Alliance SSR in terms of design and style.

The graphics for the SSR are by far some of, if not the, best stylized paint jobs on any motorcycle lid for 2010. Numerous skulls don most of the various designs this year, such as the Headhunter version - a vividly bright, beautifully drawn, heroin (or villian?) holding a skull on display while knee deep in numerous other skulls of rivals gone past:

For those riders who are not into the 'skulls' look - the Austin Powers inspired Headtrip graphic is a 'trippy' design that looks more 'groovy' than anything out there:

An all out orgy of detail is found on the Dia De Los Muertos (Day Of The Dead) graphic. Instead of a full shot of this helmet we took a detailed photo so you can see just how much effort has been put into this graphic:

For all the female riders out there who want to add a little pink to their motorcycle attire the Speedfreak graphic is a phenomenally pink design. Instead of using a 'baby pink' that is found on most women's motorcycle gear (which ironically enough, most women are not necessarily fond of) - the Speedfreak in pink is a shade of deep red/pink that feels like a fleshy alien color. In addition to pink, the Speedfreak comes in seven color variations (blue, black, grey, green, red, yellow, pink).

The face shield employs Icon's Quick change fog-free face shield.

The Alliance SSR HydraDry wicking interior ensures your head will be kept dry as sweat and moisture is wicked away from your skin.

The removable breath deflector pushes air away from the face shield to reduce the amount of fogging.

The Alliance SSR impressively meets all of the world standards: Meets or exceeds the following: DOT FMVSS 218 (US), ECE 22-05 (Europe), SAI AS1698 (Australia) & SG (Japan) safety and testing standards. However, although the SSR does meet Snell 2005, there is no indication of it meeting the newly upgraded Snell standards for 2010.

The Alliance SSR's shell construction is made of an injection molded polycarbonate shell. The Dual Density EPS protective liner provides excellent impact absorption.

The new graphics for the Alliance SSR are by far the most visually impressive on any lid out there for 2010. Meeting all of the major safety standards (with the exception of Snell 2010, however, meeting Snell 2005) - the SSR provides the wearer with the added comfort of knowing their heads are safe. As Icon's lower price tier helmet, the SSR is great for new riders, or for those with a limited budget who still want a quality helmet that is also stylish.
