learning how to ride - lesson 5 road with traffic

If you have been riding your route during times of light traffic, continue riding your route except this time ride when you know there will be more drivers on the road. If you know that no matter what time of day you ride your route there is no chance in you spotting another driver, then modify your route to be in an area of higher traffic but keeping the same restraints as before.

Especially in traffic, your best protection you can have is distance and space all around your motorcycle. If someone else makes a mistake, speed and distance are the two main factors in determining how much time you have to react. You cannot always control speed (minimum speed limit, riding with traffic flow, etc) but you can usually control the distance around you. If someone is pushing themselves into your spacial boundaries, let them pass you, change lanes, or take evasive action to allow yourself more distance.
