Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0 Jacket
Riding when the mercury rises can be great fun, but it can also be uncomfortable if you do not have the appropriate gear. Leather jackets do not breath at all and heavy textile jackets do not always offer enough ventilation in the higher temperature ranges.
Joe Rocket accommodates the rider who swallows back a liter of water and rides under a warming sun with their Phoenix 5.0 textile jacket.
style
The Phoenix 5.0 textile jacket comes in several black and color combinations:
- Black / Black
- Blue / Black
- Gray / Black
- Red / Black
- White / Black
- Yellow / Black
The styling of the color segments is rather linear and there are no graphics or logos on the jacket with the exception of the "Joe Rocket" shoulder patches. The look is simple.
features
The poly-mesh shell allows air to flow through the jacket's material and allows it to 'breath'. This makes it a great summer jacket. It has a removable waterproof liner in case you get stuck in weather you did not anticipate for. Like most Joe Rocket jackets, the phoenix 5.0 has elastic sleeve adjusters that tighten or loosen the arm area of the jacket.
A pocket for glasses storage as well as a key clip are convenient features the jacket offers.
As we mentioned in our review of Joe Rocket's Phoenix 2.0 textile pants - the Phoenix 5.0 jacket can be connected via a zipper to the Phoenix 2.0 textile pants. This allows the rider to have the connective protection of a riding suit with the option of wearing the pants and jacket separately.
safety
The abrasion resistance on the phoenix 5.0 is excellent especially considering it's classification as a summer jacket. Elbow and shoulder C.E. rated shoulder protectors are embedded into the jacket to protect against impact as well as a removable C.E. rated spine pad. The jacket has two reflective strips that follow down the inner arm to the bottom of the waist area for greater visibility.
quality
As we mentioned earlier, the jacket's ability to protect against abrasion is phenomenal. It also delivers on it's promise of keeping the rider cool by allowing air to pass through it's material.
show me the money
The jacket runs between USD $149.99 to $169.99 - which is quite reasonable.
overall value
For a summer jacket that offers exceptional protection there is no questioning the Phoenix 5.0 jacket. The added feature of being able to connect to it's partner model pants, the Phoenix 2.0 textile pants, is a great way to ensure the rider that there will be protective gaps between jacket and pants. Although not designed for cooler weather, this jacket is perfect for riding in hot climates.
